LET'S PLAY BALL!

Weekly Message from the President

Happy Friday, FCKLL Family.

We have been working tirelessly to purchase safety equipment, finalize teams, train COVID Coaches, and get ready to play!

First practices are as follows:

Majors, tomorrow, 8/8

Single A, Monday, 8/10

AA & AAA, Tuesday, 8/11

Tee Ball, Saturday, 8/15

Equipment:

Players must bring their own drink, hand sanitizer, and glove, and their own or League-issued helmet, bat, mask/gaiter, and catcher’s gear (if necessary) to each practice and game.

If you need a bat or batting helmet, please let your Manager know and we will provide one for you. And remember, this weekend you can take 20% off your purchase at Dick’s Sporting Goods:

COVID Notes:

We are following CDC and Virginia guidelines and have consulted with many Leagues, including those who played during Phase II.

Earlier this week we trained our COVID Coaches for Single A and above; we will meet with the Tee Ball group on the 13th. Turnout and response have been awesome – thank you.

At the beginning of your first practice, plan on a brief Team Meeting during which your Manager and COVID Coach will review all safety instructions. Be on the lookout for emails with info about the annual medical waiver, one-time COVD waiver, and COVID screenings prior to each event.

This week's COVID Coach trainings brought up important questions about masks. As you know, the League has purchased a branded cooling gaiter for every player and coach. Players will be issued a gaiter at the first practice. They must bring this or a mask/gaiter of their choice to every event.

In accordance with our previous guidance, masks are encouraged for coaches and players. Masks are mandatory when social distancing of 10’ cannot be followed. Players are allowed to wear a mask at any and all times. Players are not required to wear a mask while on the field during game play, but may choose to do so.

We are committed to a safe and fun season. That said, returning to activities of any type is a family choice, and if you and your family choose not to play this fall, we completely understand and look forward to seeing you in the spring.

Gifts of Time and Money:

I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank the Board Members who have worked tirelessly this summer to establish our Return-to-Play plan. These volunteers – plus ALL the Managers, Coaches of Record, COVID Coaches, and every parent and player – will make our season a success.

Several FCKLL families have donated funds to help any players who may have last-minute equipment needs. I won’t name their names here, but I hope they feel our gratitude! Anyone who’d like to make a tax-deductible gift is invited to do so at www.fckll.org – click “Donate” on the left hand bar.

I am happy to close with…. Let’s play ball!

CALLING ALL Covid Coaches

Safety First

As you have heard from your Manager or the League, each team MUST identify a “COVID Coach” before team activities can begin. This person helps enforce safety protocols and doesn’t need baseball experience. It’s not a large time commitment assuming you plan to attend your child’s games! Please reach out to your Manager or to President Greiner right away if you are interested. And remember, all Volunteers can recover their $50 annual volunteer fee! COVID Coach trainings will be August 5, 6, and 13.

When we do get underway, each player must bring a mask or gaiter. We have ordered FCKLL-branded gaiters for every player and coach. In the event those are not here by August 8, we will ask your players to bring a mask or gaiter of their choice (and we know you have a lot of them by now!) to each team event. See fckll.org for a list of what other equipment is required, and safety protocols and plans.

TEE BALL NEWS

Tee ballers: If you have not heard from your team’s Manager yet, it is because we are still finalizing a few of our rosters, to account for players who joined or left the League since Spring. If you have been asked to confirm that you are playing tee ball, and have not yet responded to that message, please get back to us ASAP! We need your input to finalize our teams and schedule. We have made the decision to shift the tee ball start date one week, to August 15, to make sure we have the right number of balanced teams at that level. If you are a tee ball family with questions, please contact our wonderful Level Coordinator, Dave Crance ( ).

KEY SAFETY INFO FOR FAMILIES

Covid Coaches Wanted for Each Team; Safety One-Pager Now Available

Please be on the lookout for a message from your Manager, looking for two volunteer "Covid Coaches" for each squad. These individuals will ensure people are staying physically distanced and remind players and coaches about this fall's special rules. Covid Coaches coordinate where players sit, wearing of gaiters when within 10', equipment sanitizing, and more. Baseball expertise is NOT required!

All families are asked to review the "one pager" we developed, summarizing what we will do to keep everyone safe this Fall. You will hear more about this from your Manager, but please check it out here:

We Want YOU!

Seeking Volunteers & Board Members

The League is focused on setting ourselves up for an outstanding fall season that is safe and rewarding for all players. We are a 100% volunteer-run not-for-profit, and we need your help to make it all happen. Various Board positions will be open (usually for two year terms) beginning in September.

These include President, COVID Response Coordinator, Coaching Coordinator, Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Player Agent, Assistant Secretary, Challenger Program Assistant, managers, team parents, snack bar helpers (if and when we can open our snack bar), and more! Think of all the glory that could be yours, as the next FCKLL President!

Officer slates are typically finalized in August with a vote in September. If you would like more info about any of these positions, please reach out to  .
